‘Ricardo Oliveras Salva joins ECIJA as partner of Sports and Entertainment Law’ 

His joining to the Firm reinforces the Sports, Entertainment and Corporate Practices

Ricardo Oliveras Salva, has worked as legal counsel on some of the most important international sporting events, such as the America CupSuperleague Formula Motorsport Series; more recently he has been a consultant to FIFA in the bidding process  to host the World Cup in 2018 jointly made by Portugal and Spain.

ECIJA was one of the first Spanish Firms to offer specific specialized advice to  key players in the Sports and Entertainment sector, starting with the organization of the World Athletics Championships back in 1999.

ECIJA has acted as legal advisor to the World Basketball Championships; in the acquisition of broadcasting rights for major sporting events such as the Madrid Open Tennis; Formula 1, the PGA tournament and Motorcycling World Championship or World Championship Handball. ECIJA is also a major player in the purchase and sale of audiovisual rights of the Football League and the ACB, advising major players, coaches and Football Clubs.

ECIJA lawyers have also been active as advisors to FIFA agents in the legal and tax matters in connection with some of the most important football transfers in recent years for teams such as Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona, RCD Espanyol and Real Madrid.

The firm has assisted some of the leading sponsors in the International Market and particularly has advised Turkish Airlines in the termination of its sponsorhip agreement with FC Barcelona and on the image rights agreement concluded with Leo Messi.

Ricardo Oliveras Salva, has an extensive professional experience as legal advisor to federations, agencies, sportsmen and sports-related businesses. After seven years in the legal department of KPMG Abogados, Ricardo joined the America’s Cup Management (organizer of the 32nd. America’s Cup) as in-house Legal Counsel; later he was promoted as Director of the Legal and Corporate Department of the international championship Superleague Formula car race.

Ricardo has a LLB from Abad Oliva CEU Barcelona, ​​Master University in Business Law from ISDE (Senior Law and Economics Institute), and has completed the General Management Program (PDG) from IESE Business School. He currently lectures at the ‘Master in International Sports Law’ at ISDE.

Ricardo has a deep knowledge and experience in conflict resolution and the negotiation of all sorts of sport related agreements (sponsorship, image transfer/ exploitation of commercial rights), as well as legal advice on bidding processes for the organization of sporting events and matters relating to the organization (‘hosting‘) sport events in Spain.

Besides his deep involvement in Sports Law, Ricardo advises numerous national and international companies, including several technology start-ups for which he acts as secretary or member of the board.
