Eduardo Benavides is a partner in the areas of Litigation and International Arbitration, Civil Law, and Commercial Law. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Faculty of Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, and pursued postgraduate studies in Heidelberg, Germany, and at ESAN Business School in Lima.
He is an expert in Civil Law, Corporate Law, International Arbitration, and International Projects and Transactions.
He has been a partner at Berninzon & Benavides Abogados since 1999.
Eduardo Benavides is a professor at the Law Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, and has also taught at the University of Lima, the National University of San Marcos, and in the MBA program at ESAN University.
He has served as Co-Chair of the Latin American and Caribbean Committee of the Section of International Law (SIL) of the American Bar Association (ABA), Co-Chair of the International Commercial Transactions Committee, Chair of the Americas/Middle East Division, and Deputy to the Chairman of the same section. He is currently a Council Member of the Section of International Law of the ABA and a member of the Latin America and Caribbean Law Initiative Council of the Rule of Law Initiative (ROLI).
He has been a Member of the Editorial Board of International Law News.
He has served as a Board Member of several companies in Peru.
He has been a member of the Civil Code and Commercial Code Reform Commissions, a member of the Advisory Committee on Obligations and Contracts of the Lima Bar Association, and an advisor to both the Civil Code Reform Commission and the Business Code Commission.
He was a founder of the Arbitration Center at AmCham Peru and served as a member of its Court of Arbitration.
He has also been a Member of the Advisory Committee of the Center for American and International Law in Plano, Texas.
He has worked as a consultant to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on the Real Estate Legislation Reform Project in Peru, and on Lease, Lodging, and Timeshare Law in the Dominican Republic.
He also served as a consultant to the Ministry of Housing and Construction in Peru on a project to reform the Leasehold Regime.
He has been Chairman of the Board of EUROCAMARAS PERU, Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Peruvian-German Chamber of Commerce for three terms, and a Board Member of the Association of Binational Chambers of Commerce.
He is currently Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Peruvian-British Chamber of Commerce, a Board Member of the Peruvian-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, and Director and Secretary of the Swiss Cultural Fund.
Eduardo has participated as a legal expert in over 40 international arbitrations.
He is the author of two books on contract law and has published more than 30 legal articles in specialized journals.
He has been ranked in Who’s Who of Professionals, Which Lawyer, Chambers Latin America, Latin Lawyer 250, Best Lawyers, and Leaders League.
He is the only Peruvian jurist elected as a Fellow of The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, and is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
