Update of the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA) for 2025
By Tania Ávila and Julio Silva
On January 9, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) announced the update of the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA) values for 2025, effective February 1, 2025. This update establishes a 4.21% increase compared to 2024.
Remember that the UMA is an economic reference used to determine the amount of legal obligations established by federal, state, and other legal provisions.
According to the Second Transitory Article of the Decree on the deindexation of the minimum wage, the UMA must be updated annually. This calculation is made by multiplying the value of the UMA from the previous year by the sum of one and the year-on-year growth of the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) for December. In December 2024, this variation was 4.21%.
Implications of the Update
The UMA update directly impacts the determination of payments related to tax obligations, fines, mortgage loans, government procedures, and other economic provisions that use this indicator as a calculation basis.
