Bayardo Poveda is a partner at ECIJA Ecuador with over 25-years’ experience in international business, foreign investment, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, financing projects, debt issues and multilateral and syndicated credit transactions. He has an extensive track record in regulatory matters, public procurement, public-private partnerships, and in providing legal support and participating in projects related to the energy, hydrocarbon, mining and electricity sectors.
He was a consultant to the Ecuadorian State on implementing its competition laws and regulations. He has experience in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. Before joining ECIJA, he was a partner and associate at key firms in Quito and Brussels.
Bayardo holds a degree in law and a PhD in Jurisprudence from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. He has a postgraduate degree in Finance, Banking and Insurance Law from Simón Bolívar Andean University of Quito, and an LLM in Law and Economics from Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. He has completed postgraduate studies in International Commercial Arbitration at the Hague Academy of International Law and in Economic Aspects of Competition Law at the Catholic University of Santiago, in Chile. Successfully completed the postgraduate program in Economics and Finance for Lawyers, offered by the Foundation Institute for Economic Research and Education in agreement with Pompeu Fabra University and Barcelona Business School.
He has been recognised by Chambers and Legal 500 in the fields of Energy and Corporate law.
