Driving the Green Future: ECIJA México and the Sustainability Revolution at the 3rd AIJA Americas Meeting

On March 8th, ECIJA México made its mark at the 3rd AIJA Americas Meeting in Santiago de Chile, through the prominent participation of Carlos del Razo, partner in the Sustainability and Environmental area at the firm. He presented the lecture “Clean Energy and Sustainable Development” within the framework of the Green Future in Latam panel.

The panel was moderated by Renzo Roberti from Peru and also featured the participation of distinguished professionals such as Antonio Rubilar and María Francisca Bannura from Chile.
The meeting stood out for its focus on the challenges and opportunities related to renewable energy, environmental legislation, and the promotion of sustainable development, capturing the attention of an international audience of more than 65 lawyers from 10 different countries.

During his presentation, Del Razo shared insights and reflections on critical issues for sustainable development and environmental protection. The content of the presentation included a detailed analysis of relevant international instruments, such as the Convention on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples of 1989, the Escazú Agreement, and the interaction between the Pacific Alliance and MERCOSUR in the context of WTO rules and human rights. These topics served as a preamble for a broader discussion on Environmental Impact Assessment, the importance of the right to consultation and free, prior, and informed consent, and the need to comply with environmental standards in development projects.

Del Razo also argued that sustainable practices protect human rights and prevent social conflicts while promoting the success of infrastructure projects, attracting investments. He emphasized the relevance of these practices for Latin America, urging attendees to adopt a responsible approach to the environment.
