ECIJA incorporates Jesús Rubí, from the AEPD, to strengthen its Privacy and Data Protection practice
The firm closes its third signing so far this month and consolidates its privacy and data protection department with the incorporation of one of the key figures of the AEPD
ECIJA’s privacy and data protection practice is reinforced with a heavyweight in the sector and one of the highest authorities in the Spanish and Latin American market in the discipline, who has devoted his last 25 years of practice to the supervisory authority, where he has held the position of deputy director and coordinator of the Support and Institutional Relations Unit of the AEPD.
After 25 years dedicated to public service in the AEPD, where he has had the perspective of the Control Authority in Spain in the field of application of data protection regulations, he now joins the privacy and data protection team of ECIJA, which already has 20 partners and 120 professionals in technology, privacy and data protection in Spain and 200 professionals globally.
Rubí’s incorporation to ECIJA brings to the firm the enormous value of having someone who for the last 25 years has been the body and soul of the AEPD both in Spain and Latin America, thus reinforcing the enormous capabilities of the firm in the advisory and sanctioning areas.
A career civil servant belonging to the Senior Corps of Technicians of the Social Security Administration, since 2005 he has held the position of deputy director of the Spanish Data Protection Agency, where he has also been deputy director general of inspection.
Rubí has been director of the Cabinet of the Minister of Justice and general director of relations with the Congress of Deputies in the Ministry of the Presidency. He has also worked in the Ministry of Relations with the Courts and in the Government Secretariat.
Subsequently, he was Deputy Director General of the Legal Department of the Audit Department of the Court of Auditors, and member of the Court for the Defense of Competition, where he also held the position of Deputy Director General of Inspection and Deputy to the Director. Subsequently, he was deputy to the director of the Spanish Data Protection Agency.
In addition to his extensive professional career and service in Spain, Rubí actively participated in the creation of the Ibero-American Data Protection Network, of which he has also been the coordinator, working directly to promote data protection in Ibero-America and the development of its legislation in different countries in this region.
Rubí joins the ECIJA Madrid office as a partner to strengthen the technology, data protection and privacy area, an outstanding area of the firm, which today has more than 20 partners and 120 lawyers in Spain alone and is recognized in band 1 in Chambers and Partners and in Legal 500.
