INDAUTOR finally has a general director: the challenges ahead
By Mike Margáin
The recent appointment of Karina Luján Luján as the new director general of the National Copyright Institute (INDAUTOR) brings to an end more than five years without an incumbent at the key institution for copyright protection in Mexico. This marks a crucial moment in addressing the many challenges facing the creative sector in an increasingly digitized and competitive environment.
The main challenge will be to modernize and streamline INDAUTOR’s services, from the registration of works to the mediation of copyright disputes, in a context where piracy remains a threat to creators. In addition, it will be vital to align the Institute’s policies with current market needs and international commitments, ensuring that processes are both accessible and effective.
From the private sector, we also see the importance of building bridges with this new administration to ensure that the proposed strategies have a real impact on the creative industry, both nationally and internationally. At ECIJA Mexico, we are ready to support our clients in adapting to the changes that this new stage in INDAUTOR may bring, providing specialized intellectual property advice that will allow them to face the legal and commercial challenges of the sector.
