World Environment Day
World Environment Day, celebrated every year on June 5, aims to raise awareness and promote environmental action around the world.
World Environment Day provides a platform for dialogue among stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, businesses and citizens. This dialogue is essential for developing effective policies and strategies for environmental protection. One example is the “Plant a Tree, Plant a Future” campaign in Kenya, where local communities come together to reforest and restore natural habitats. In India, composting and recycling workshops are held to educate people about waste management. In Europe, numerous cities are carrying out beach and river cleanups to combat plastic pollution.
Social media also plays a crucial role, helping to spread messages and call to action to a wider audience. Campaigns such as the “30 Day Plastic Free Challenge” invite people to reduce their use of single-use plastics for a month by sharing their progress and tips on platforms such as Instagram and X (Twitter). Movements such as “Fridays for Future”, driven by young activists, use social networks to organize demonstrations and demand concrete actions against climate change.
At ECIJA Mexico´s Sustainability and Environment Area, we understand the importance of this day and we work to help companies and organizations to comply with the applicable environmental regulations, as well as to develop sustainable policies and strategies that respect and protect our ecosystems, reaffirming our commitment to environmental responsibility.
