ECIJA aims to double its turnover in five years
The company is aware that it is setting itself an ambitious, but also achievable goal, given the good results obtained in recent years.
“Grow, connect, and innovate”. This is the mantra with which ECIJA wants to pursue its development and has guided its progress since the firm was founded in 1997. To date, the evolution of the law firm has been unstoppable, and the firm’s management intends to follow the same path. Now their goal is to double their global turnover in the next five years, and thus surpass the 150-million-euro revenue barrier.
“It’s an ambitious goal, but also a realistic one. If we look at the evolution of the firm in the last five years, we’ve succeeded in doubling our turnover and expanding our team exponentially. Now we’re in an even better position: we have the collective commitment of all ECIJA offices, we have implemented technology and management tools that allow us to gain efficiency, we have new business lines and practice areas, and we are looking to expand into new countries and grow internationally,” says Hugo Écija, president of the firm.
The founding partner explains the formula they will use to make this leap: to continue betting on the firm’s organic growth, but also on the incorporation of new partners, offices, and regions, while maintaining the DNA of the firm and the positioning of its brand in the 17 countries with ECIJA presence.
Consolidation
The reality is that, with revenues of over 80 million euros -82.4 million, to be exact-, ECIJA has consolidated its position among the ten Spanish law firms with the highest turnover, and this development plan, which would seem unattainable in another law firm, could be within its reach by maintaining its momentum.
The way to achieve this ambitious goal, adds Alejandro Touriño, the firm’s managing partner, is to constantly reinvent itself “by moving away from traditional models and seeking tailor-made solutions for our clients through a global, multidisciplinary service, coupled with local knowledge”.
Another ace up ECIJA’s sleeve to further strengthen its position, both in Spain and in the rest of the world, is its alliance with Taylor Wessing, sealed months ago. As explained by the law firm, in this short period of time they have already tackled more than a hundred projects together. “We have become a global player with a very strong focus on the digital economy, which allows us to take on projects of enormous significance together. For ECIJA, it has also meant the possibility of direct access to markets reserved for global operators,” Touriño analyzes.
On the operational, labor, and human resources side, ECIJA has also set a clear course. Although the firm has achieved part of its growth thanks to the expansion of its practice areas, it has not forgotten its origins in the field of intellectual property and in the technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) sector, and will not forgo these areas. “It has taken us a lot of work to become a reference in the market in these fields, and the goal for the coming years is to leverage our progress in these areas. For the firm, the digital economy sector will be our main area of growth,” says Écija.
In terms of attracting and retaining talent, Touriño says that the firm is attractive to professionals thanks to its way of doing things, “the vitality with which we work to always be one step ahead, our commitment to technology, sustainability, and diversity. We are the Spanish firm with the highest number of female partners and we continue to work on flexibility policies and promote initiatives at a global level thanks to our Ecija by Women program,” concludes the firm’s managing partner.
